Shercar, the online DVLA enquiry system, has once again been awarded a contract to provide services to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ).

The MOJ, which has utilised the Shercar system since its inception in 2004, has announced that the contract has been renewed for a further year.

Shercar is operated by parent company, business solutions’ specialists Shergroup, allowing authorised parties such as county court bailiffs and enforcement officers to obtain information about vehicles from the DVLA. Results are provided within 48 hours of an online request being made.

Shergroup Chief Executive Claire Sandbrook said: “The MOJ contract is very substantial and reinforces Shercar’s position as the safest pair of hands in the industry. We are very pleased that the contract has been renewed and we look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with the Ministry.”

The Shercar system, which won the 2008 Credit Today award for Innovation of the Year, is set to extend its offering to include an online automated removal and sales service. Mrs Sandbrook said: “This means that Shercar will then be able to provide a complete package for our clients. As it stands, we currently receive around 50,000 enquiries each year and we predict this figure will increase even further with the new services we are introducing.”

She added: “We’re also in talks with authorities in Scotland to provide the Shercar service there next year, alongside our existing provision in England and Wales.”
