Sherforce recoup part of Hustler debts
More than £35,000 has been recouped so far by debt recovery experts Sherforce from the sale of erotic items from the Hustler Hollywood sex chain.
Sherforce, the UK’s largest team of High Court Enforcement Officers, were called to remove the goods from the Hustler Hollywood stores in Birmingham and London in November last year (2005).
Hustler Hollywood had failed to pay money owed to one of its suppliers, resulting in a High Court writ.
Items including sex toys, lingerie, and erotica were sold at auction, with £25,000 netted from the sale of the items from the Birmingham store which, at 6,000 square feet, is described as the largest sex product outlet in the UK. A further £10,000 was raised before Christmas when items from the London store were sold to one bidder. More auctions are planned.
Sherforce Chief Executive Claire Sandbrook said: “We are extremely pleased that we have been able to recover some of the money owing, although there is still a significant amount outstanding.”
“It is important that businesses that cannot pay their debts do not bury their heads in the sand – and at Sherforce our aim is to help them as much as possible, while ensuring that the creditors receive what is owed to them.”
Sherforce employs 94 people in Colchester, London, Leeds, and Delhi, 40 of whom are high court enforcement officers, making it the largest agency in the UK, handling 40% of the market’s workload. It is the only enforcement firm in the top 200 law firms, and is the sixth oldest law firm in the UK, dating back to 1780.
