An article caught our eye this week – when an accountant who was also a Taylor Swift fan, got a front row seat at her concert. His strategy was ingenious yet simple – he applied to be a security guard for the security company supplying security on her Eras Tour in Nashville, Tennessee.
Getting tickets to mega pop star concerts is almost a lottery for so many of us so the idea of applying to be on the security team for the diva herself wasn’t lost on the team here at Shergroup.
Accountant by day/security guard by night – was one Davis Perrigo out of Nashville. After failing to get tickets to the gig, he applied to join the security team looking after Ms Swift at the local Nissan Stadium. Needless to say, he saved on the cost of a front row seat and got an outstanding view of his idol. In fact, he is reported to have said that on Friday evening he was beside the stage but on Saturday he even improved on that view!
Not only did he secure a first-class view but his enthusiasm as a singing security guard quickly caught the attention of other “Swifties”, He ended up with videos being posted of him singing along to all Taylor’s song – which he knew off by heart!
It was reported by some news channels that this was a notable difference in stance to the one usually displayed by “gruff” security guards working an event. He demeanour even catching the attention of Ms Swift’s support team.
Perrigo was quoted as saying “I actually got reprimanded by Taylor’s security, saying that I was going too hard and I needed to take it down a notch,”.
This incident was in stark contrast to the actions of the security team at the concert in Philadelphia where Ms Swift had to personally intervene when a security guard was too heavy handed with fans. This also caused a story to break on social media.
The conclusion we draw from these two events is that professional security is neither too personally involved or too heavy-handed when it comes to providing event security at a significant event such as a concert where a global superstar is performing. It underlines the need to ensure security guards have a proven track record of experience when assigning them to a detail.
We like to think our security guards would display a balanced approach to their responsibilities – perhaps singing to themselves – and not being too gruff with a group of fans clearly having a good time. But at the same time carrying out their responsibilities as security officers so that the event passed without incident.
At Shergroup Security we work on the basis of recruiting security officers with three or more years of experience. This is verified and a full criminal background check is done to ensure the security person can carry out his or her duties.
