Shergroup on the move
The UK’s largest firm of high court enforcement officers is moving from Colchester to Braintree as part of major expansion plans.
Shergroup, which specialises in recovering business debts and undertaking evictions, has bought new offices at Freeport, enabling the firm to take advantage of closer connections to Stansted Airport.
Claire Sandbrook, Chief Executive of Shergroup, said: “We’re in the process of creating a European network of enforcement agencies, and we’ve been choosing locations overseas specifically because we can get to them quickly and easily from Stansted.”
By creating links with enforcement officers in France, Holland, Germany, Sweden and Malta, Shergroup can offer a two way service, to enforce foreign judgments in the UK, and UK judgments in Europe. The opportunity to meet strategic partners using Stansted allows Shergroup to build a European hub of partners by taking advantage of the low cost airlines for which Stansted is so well known.
Shergroup is believed to be the only business of its kind that offers a complete range of services for the enforcement of court judgments and orders. It has recently been instructed to enforce a judgment in Melbourne, Australia, and Mrs Sandbrook, took the opportunity to call the Melbourne Sheriff’s Office at midnight UK time to check local practice.
She explained: “The old Sheriff system of enforcement has been a worldwide export for the English common law – and many procedures are based on the English model in Commonwealth countries and the United States.”
Shergroup’s headquarters staff will be moving from Westwood Park in Colchester to Braintree over the next few weeks, and its other offices will be retained in London, Leeds and Delhi.
